Worldwide Triumph for Ridgeview English Sparkling Wine


Sussex sparkling wine producers Ridgeview have completed the unthinkable in the history of English wine. For the third time in seven years Ridgeview have won the trophy for “Best International Sparkling Wine”.

The family company situated on the South Downs of England are proving that English Sparkling Wine is a serious contender on the world stage. Ridgeview Grosvenor (Blanc de Blancs) 2007 was awarded the trophy for the “Best Bottle Fermented Sparkling Wine” in the 2011 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC), one of the most respected wine competitions in the world. Over 85 countries enter the competition annually and all wines are blind tasted by an esteemed judging panel.

Ridgeview previously won the same accolade in 2005 and a similar trophy last year in the Decanter World Wine awards for overall Best Sparkling Wine; the first time this was awarded to a wine other than Champagne. Mike Roberts MBE Director and Winemaker commented; "We are thrilled with winning this much sought after trophy for the second time. It is a great reward for all the family and team effort that is put into creating our wine. Ridgeview was founded by the Roberts family in 1994, focusing on traditional Champagne grape varieties and methods on the South Downs of Sussex. Since the release of their wines a decade ago, Ridgeview has now amassed over 150 trophies and medals, putting English Sparkling Wine on an International stage. The late burst of sunshine in 2011 perfectly coincided with the recent Ridgeview October harvest, which will ensure the quality of this year’s grapes are excellent for the current vintage which will be available in 2013.

The latest accolade tops of an amazing year for Ridgeview after their Rosé sparkling wine was served by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace in honour of President Obama’s visit in May, and founder Mike Roberts was awarded an MBE for his services to the English wine industry in June.
